And these brilliant business tips are all here for free! So settle in and scoop up these tantalizing goodies before your competition does!

#10. Start CPR Immediately!

Our first jaw-dropping tip is all about reviving a failed product or service. Small Business Rainmaker put together 18 separate ways to breathe life back into products and services that may have flatlined before their time.

Old Beer in New Bottles

The ideas we particularly loved had to do with better appealing to customers. Beyond changing the packaging of a product (although that can help), we were more interested in appeals to culture. As the article states, if you’re selling beer around the world, you’d better know the best color bottle for the most sales. If people decide clear bottles are more trendy than green, then make the change.

Hang Out Somewhere Else

Another tip we liked was to promote in a different way. If you’ve only been using print advertising, then why not go online? Just radio? Then why not consider billboards? Only TV? Then how about trade shows?

Your customers just might be hanging out where you aren’t – so change that!

Make it an Event

marketing dollars - Believe in Business Balance –10 Brilliant Business Tips of the WeekWe also liked two similar ideas. One was to speak at events attended by ideal customers. And the other was to host an event featuring your product or service.

Let’s say you market (to create a somewhat off the wall service for the purposes of this blog post) massages for pets. Then why not get together with animal shelters and breed rescues, and start a local dog show? Yes, that’s a lot of money and time and energy. But it’s also right in your product’s wheelhouse.

Marketing dollars spent wisely will pay dividends.

#9. Turn Boredom into Contentment

The next awesome tip is about what happens when you’re past the stage of 14-hour work days and nonstop worry. Andrew Jensen tackles how sometimes the success stage of a business can turns into been there, done that.

Emotions in a Blender

Have you ever felt like your emotions were all mixed up? Of course you have, because everyone has! When a business moves past self-doubts and second thoughts, success happens. But not everyone is 100% happy, 24/7, about such a change in circumstances.

Say what?

Seriously, once you’re finally riding the wave, you may find your adrenaline stores depleted. If so, then it’s a great time for a vacation. Or you may feel kind of bored. Yes, really! We can become adrenaline junkies if we don’t watch it.

But there’s a big difference between the risks we take when starting a company, versus the risks we take if we upset the apple cart just because we feel a stable company has become one big yawnfest.

Turn That Emotional Beat Around

So you’re not rushing off to do this or that all the time. And maybe you miss it a little bit. That’s okay! Free time or at least less frenetic time can feel weird when you’ve gotten used to the opposite.

So, what to do?

Well, for starters, remember that vacation? You might want to take one, and you know, reconnect with your family. They probably missed you when you were building your empire.

And another idea is to channel that excess energy and time into – ta da! – improving your business. Add a new product line. Open a new office. Bring in innovators and shake things up.

Or you could just be happy. Which is kinda cool, too.

#8. Oops in the AM

Our following life-changing tip concerns nine – count ‘em, nine! – productivity mistakes you’re making when you start your day. Impact sets the record straight on this ennead (Ennead means a group of nine) of errors.

Step Away from the Multitasking

We really loved this one. And who among us isn’t guilty of it?

We’re all so used to texting while watching TV and eating dinner and listening to music, we hardly think about it anymore. But you don’t enjoy any of those things when you do them all at once. And the same is true for work.

So pulling out your planner while on the phone (unless to jot down notes from the call) is counterproductive. And, let’s face it, it’s impolite to not give people your full attention. This leads us to …

Close that Browser!

Yeah, we’ve done this, too. Starting the day with a web browser open for any purpose other than work just sets your bad habit up for the entire day. What do we mean by this? Essentially, there’s social media, and there’s private email. And, truly, you shouldn’t be doing either on company time.

But what about reading news articles? That one’s a little trickier. So consider your circumstances, and plan accordingly. At a finance-oriented business such as Credit Suite, it makes perfect sense to check out articles on Inc, Entrepreneur, Business Insider, and the like. But not the Hollywood Reporter.

Now, Wait Just a Cotton-Picking Minute There

The third tip, however, left us scratching our heads in confusion. The idea is to not open your email during the first half hour of the morning. After all, it can take a good 20 – 25 minutes to get back in the groove of work after checking email.

Now, we’re all for limiting how often and how long we check email. That’s actually a great idea, to allow email to batch a bit before answering a slew of them. But where this tip falls apart (we feel) is for the simple fact that in an international company, emails batch up overnight. Hence answering them in the morning gets several items cleared quickly.

And, let’s be honest, we need to help out our colleagues who may be stuck waiting for us to answer something or other. So we would amend this tip to – take 5 – 15 minutes to answer email at the start of the day and then move onto other tasks until about 10 AM or so.

But that doesn’t fit so neatly on an infographic.

#7. Stop, Thief!

For our next sensational tip, we looked at preventing theft at work. Talk Business had some great tips about keeping data and property safe. We were particularly impressed with the tips about digital assets.

Protect and Erase

Huh? For digital assets you need to keep, protect them with, among other measures, good old-fashioned passwords! Yeah, we hate changing them all the time, too, but it’s a necessary evil.

And as for digital assets you are truly finished with and will never need to access again (those reports from 10 years ago, about a product line you discontinued 8 years ago – yeah, those), then why not just delete them? Consider working with a service (or have your IT department get this done) which will wipe hard drives completely if you’re done working with them.

After all, irretrievably erased data can’t be stolen.

#6. Look at Me! Look at Me!

This tip is so creative, and it works! The Self Employed delivered a terrific article on how to harness your product’s uniqueness and make it stand out.

We especially loved the one about humanity. Because we agree, and think it’s key.

True Story Time

Your intrepid blog writer has, like many people before and since, looked for work online. Among other things, such a search involves going to the websites of companies which are less familiar. While you should know the company you’re applying to, inside and out, there’s nothing wrong with also looking at newer kids of the block.

Which company would you rather work for?

  1. “Below we have formulated multifunctional information on commonly asked inquiries we receive about…”
  2. “If you’d like some answers before speaking with us, here are some of the questions we get most often…”

These are both from FAQ pages. The first one doesn’t seem to make any sense. But the second was written by an actual human.

Same with your product and about pages. Show who you are – really. You’d be surprised at how many companies just plain don’t.

#5. Attain Business Balance Today

Grab this mind-blowing tip while it’s hot!

Business balance can be right around the corner. Addicted to Success put it all in perspective.

Here’s the tip we loved the most.

Block Out Time Like a Boss

make time - Believe in Business Balance –10 Brilliant Business Tips of the WeekOf course we all have calendars. And God knows they’re always filled, or at least it seems that way. But what about home and family time? It can be deceptively easy to blow off your kid’s soccer game or skip date night in favor of sleep.

Don’t.

Instead, make an appointment, a recurring one, and stick it in your calendar. Note: you may have to create separate time appointments for weekdays versus weekends or the like.

And treat these appointments like you do those for work. You pay attention, you get there on time, and you give them your all. And you do your darnedest not to be late.

Make time for the important things in life which aren’t work.

Business Balance Even in this Blog

You may have noticed this blog started off with someone negative issues. Well watch us slide to the other side and lay the positivity on you. Because we can.

#4. Acting on Passive Income

Check out this spectacular tip, all about passive income. Speaking of business balance, Kim Garst offered ways to leverage your time. After all, it’s the only asset you’ve got which is 100% nonrenewable. You can’t stretch it, either (not talking about multitasking here).

Essentially, we all trade time for money (that’s how capitalism works). But time is infinite. Hence the idea of passive income, which means creating an income stream (perhaps several) where it more or less runs itself. Of course, you will need to set things up at the start. It doesn’t just fall from the sky.

Great Passive Income Ideas

We really loved the practical lists of ideas. It’s more than affiliate marketing or building an app. Check out the article in its entirety to really see what’s out there.

#3. Your Back Pages

It’s not your imagination: this winning tip can make you more productive! Flipping Heck outlined how hand-writing three stream of consciousness pages every morning can make your productivity soar.

Remember tip #8, where we talked about what not to do in the morning? Well, one thing not to do is start work without clearing your head. And this method of writing (yes, writing, not typing) can do just that.

What Do I Write About?

Anything. Yes, really! Write about what you think the cute barista at the coffee shop was born, or whether your favorite sports team will make the playoffs. It quite literally does. Not. Matter. So write!

#2. Chasing Google

Our second to last unbeatable tip can give you a new perspective on ranking on Google. UpGrad put together a list of tips to get those coveted better spots on the biggest search engine.

What Was Our Favorite?

Why, it was answering questions. And look, we just did! Pretty cool, huh?

The rest of the article lays out the kind of advice which we follow and we feel makes sense. Such as, for example, good headlines and good first paragraphs. Get to the point fast. And name your posts meaningfully!

The best part is – anyone can do this.

#1. The Poor Little Rich Entrepreneur

We saved the best for last. For our favorite remarkable tip, we focused on a problem that, frankly, we fervently hope all our readers experience! Entrepreneur let us in on the things no one tells you about running a million dollar business.

We were truly shocked about the first one.

Cash Flow Conundrum

A million smackers – it seems as if it would solve all your cash flow problems, yes? Well, sure – if the money is flowing in. But that first million is, most likely, getting plowed back into the business. Think about everything you put off buying – yeah, that stuff? Once your business starts hauling in the big bucks, it’s time to buy that stuff. Upgrade equipment. Expand. Hire.

You get the picture. So don’t rest on your laurels just yet!

So which one of our brilliant business tips was your favorite? And which one will you be implementing now?
