#10. Is Your Website Experienced?

Our first jaw-dropping tip is all about how branding, the customer experience and the user experience matter when it comes to upping search engine traffic. Manta says Google position is important and of course it is. There are over a trillion searches on Google alone, and it is responsible for some 60% of all incoming traffic – anywhere.

Love Your Website Visitors and Give Them a Reason to Love You Back

So how do you rise through the ranks?

One easy and proven way is with site speed. Faster sites rank better. That’s all there is to it.

But there’s also – a good mobile experience, writing for your audience, and using internal links. Internal links help customers discover more content in your website.

And it all starts with the big mac daddy – website organization.

Putting all of these together makes for a better user experience. And what does that do? It gives people a reason to return. Returning means potentially buying. And it also means an increase in website popularity. In short, you can make some money this way. No lie!

#9. Facebook to Scale

The next awesome tip is about scaling sales on Facebook. Selz offers some great tips.

Our favorite idea is to get and stay on brand. It can be temptingly easy to just jump in with products. But it makes a ton more sense to get your store set up properly first. A well-created Facebook store will save you time and headaches down the road.

So put in the time now. We can assure you, it will pay dividends later.

Measure Forever!

Although it was not a real ‘tip’, and more mentioned in passing, we were still happy to see analytics in the article. As with everything else, you will never know you are succeeding unless you start measuring.

#8. Turn on Buyers’ Impulse Engines

Our following life-changing tip concerns increasing impulse buys. The Self-Employed says to look at it like any place you normally see impulse buys.

Hint: it’s your grocery store.

Is it any wonder why the eyeglass repair kits, the gum, and gift cards are all at the checkout counter? These little things would probably get lost if they were on display anywhere else in the store. But at checkout, they become one little extra thing which many people don’t mind tossing into their carts.

What’s an extra $1 when you’re already spending $200?

So consider designing your website in a similar way. And you just might turn on the impulse engine.

#7. Maybe I Don’t Want My Host to Be Blue

For our next sensational tip, we looked at five Bluehost alternatives for an ecommerce business. Opt in Monster says there are great choices out there.

Our Old Standby

We talk about GoDaddy all the time, and it’s often in the context of building business credit. So we were happy to see it make the cut. However, the article mentions GoDaddy is kind of basic. Which can be great for a beginner.

Other options include Host Gator, which offers flexibility. Site Ground has speed and load times on its side. A2 is more developer friendly. And Dream Host offers unlimited space.

Only you can decide which features matter the most to you. We highly recommend reading the entire article, just to see what’s out there.

#6. Transform Your Website into an Outstanding Salesperson

This tip is so cool, and it works! Copyblogger says it’s possible to alter your website and turn it into what is essentially a sales engine.

We particularly loved the concept of treating your website a bit like an employee. Of course this employee works 24/7/365. But like a human employee, it needs maintenance and managing. And it also needs regular reviews.

Keep doing what works. Stop doing what doesn’t.

We say that a lot.

#5. Become an Inclusive Small Business

Grab this mind-blowing tip while it’s hot!

Fundera leads the way with some great ideas. Did you know that a diverse small business is 33 times more likely to financially outperform a homogeneous one? That’s no typo!

Ban the Technobabble

We truly loved tip #5, which advises to avoid overly technical jargon an entry-level person would not understand. And we are all for that.

True story time.

What in Tarnation is That?

Your intrepid blog writer worked for Dictaphone as a subject matter expert several years ago. And at meetings, everyone would natter on about the LM.

What’s the LM?

It’s a language model.

So, what’s a language model?

It’s a vocabulary list.

This information was on offer after about a month of employment. A bewildered month, that is.

Please don’t do this to your newbie employees!

You Know What Happens When You Assume

We also really loved the #1 tip, which is to not assume address and gender pronouns, but to ask. This should, frankly, be something we do every time we meet someone. Yes, yes, many people will have obvious genders and probably pretty obvious titles. But not always.

Your intrepid blog post writer experienced this first-hand over 20 years ago, when a secretary used just the second half of my last name. And called me Mrs., a title and name which only seems to go with my mother in law. This was not how an inclusive small business should operate. Heck, it’s not really how any business should run.

Ask. It’s easy, and it’s fast. Ask.

#4. It’s All About the Influence

Check out this spectacular tip, all about influencer marketing. Buzzsumo says it is a great technique for spreading the word. We could not agree more.

Numbers Are Not the Whole Story

This is vital. So of course anyone with 10,000 users or a million users or even more is going to be of interest. But if they don’t get good engagement, then they are not your best choice, when it comes to working with an influencer. Influencers with smaller followings, but with a good degree of engagement, are better.

Why?

Here’s a Fer Instance

Let’s say you know Influencer Annie with 10,000 followers but only 60 retweet or repost or otherwise spread her message. And her friend, Influencer Brian, has 1,000 followers but a good 100 or so of them retweet, repost, etc.

Annie may still be good for getting some attention for your product or service. So don’t count her out just yet. But when it comes to more than just surface attention, Brian is your better choice.

By the way, Brian would likely be the better choice even if he also got only 60 reposts, retweets, etc. Why? Because with fewer followers and more engagement on his part, the retweeters might turn out to be decent marketing evangelists themselves.

Hence if Junior Influencer Chris retweets and reposts Brian’s message, Chris is also spreading the good news to their network. And Chris may eventually become an influencer with enough clout, followers, and engagement, where you might want to start working with them.

Not bad for one campaign.

#3. Boom! The Secrets of Marketing to Baby Boomers

It’s not your imagination: this winning tip can help you better market to folks born between 1946 and 1964. In fact, your blog writer is in this group.

Small Biz Trends says reliability and consistency are key. And we agree.

We’re Not Old; We’re Seasoned

Of course we really loved this tip. Which is simple. Don’t treat baby boomers like they’re old! Much like millennials are born between 1981 and 1996, there is a great diversity in baby boomer ages. So some are in their seventies. And others of us are in our fifties. These are rather different stages of life! inclusive small business Credit Suite3 - Inclusive Small Business –10 Brilliant Business Tips of the Week

Watch Your Ad Copy

We also really liked this one. Want to market to baby boomers more effectively? Then watch your spelling and grammar. Seriously, we’re probably the last generation to ever learn to diagram a sentence.

#2. When You Get Ahead, We All Do

Our second to last unbeatable tip can give you a new perspective on how female freelancers can help each other get ahead. A fitting topic for women’s history month! Freelancers Union says it all comes down to nine great ideas.

But the truth is, we feel these are mainly offshoots of one big idea. So, what’s the big idea? To be kind. Who knew?

Share and Share Alike

We loved the ideas to share resources, and to give exposure by sharing on social media. And close to sharing is investing. Because one of the tips was to invest in female-owned businesses. If your business is succeeding, why not share some of that love?

And by love, we mean cold, hard cash.

Give Back and Pay Forward

Our favorite was to essentially pay it forward to the next generation. Be a mentor. Or teach others. Another idea is to volunteer. And yet another idea is to give to social causes you believe in. Help ensure the future for female entrepreneurs.

#1. Deal with It

We saved the best for last. For our favorite remarkable tip, we focused on how successful people cope with folks they just plain don’t like. Entrepreneur says there are a number of strategies you can employ. We’re going to focus on just two of them. But we highly recommend reading the entire article as the other strategies are equally valid.

Battles and Boundaries

It’s actually a lot like a marriage or any other long-term relationship. You don’t want to be fighting all the time. It’s stressful. And, more importantly, it means you are expending time and energy on determining who moved your cheese. While at the same time, you’re not figuring out why sales are low in Dubuque. Isn’t the latter more important than the former.

So, to get slightly graphic, decide which hill you want to die on. Essentially, if you only spend time and energy on the sales problem, then you’ll probably get some perspective on the cheese moving.

With a toxic coworker, their incessant humming is probably a smaller hill than them making it hard to collaborate. So slap some headphones on and concentrate on the collaboration issue. It matters more.

And then there’s the issue of boundaries. How many times have you been in a meeting which had a hard stopping time? Or a coworker just plain can’t be reached at 10 PM, not for love or money? Those are boundaries. And they are thoughtful, smart ones.

So set some boundaries in your interactions with that person you just can’t stand. ‘No’ is a really beautiful word. Try using it sometimes.

So which one of our brilliant business tips was your favorite? And which one will you be implementing now?
